HURRICANE CREEK PARK History of Hurricane Creek Park One Man's Vision... Hurricane Creek Park is the vision and lifelong dream of creator and founder, William "Buddy" Rodgers. Rodgers (at left in April 2003) spotted the property some 41 years ago with its 500-foot deep gorge, soaring cliffs, waterfalls, and amazing beauty and decided to create the attraction. Rodgers laid out and built the trails, swinging bridge, and the incline car that pulls visitors up and out of the gorge. Upon his retirement, Rodgers insured the future of the park by donating it to Forever Wild of Alabama, a program of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Forever Wild of Alabama has an agreement with the City of Cullman Parks and Recreation Department for the daily operations. Since taking over the management in May of 2003, many new improvements have been made, including renovating the gift shop area, new railing, and a new roof. A monument marking the renaming of the park to The William "Buddy" Rodgers Natural Area was placed outside the main building in honor of this man's great achievements.
